Havelock North property with options galore for new owners

A rare opportunity to buy a 6.3 hectare property within the Te Mata Special Character Zone, five minutes by car from Havelock North, is available through Bayleys.

Set up as a boutique vineyard and winery with its own tasting room, Akarangi is on River Road and borders the popular Tukituki River walkway.

The all-weather walkway is used every day by hundreds of locals and visitors to the region who enjoy the chance to ride their bikes or horses, walk or run to soak up the amazing scenery and call in at the cafes, restaurants and wineries along the way.

Bayleys Country specialist Tony Rasmussen says Akarangi’s superb location on the edge of the Tukituki River creates the opportunity to develop a range of accommodation, hospitality or event options, or continue to operate the existing cellar door and wine tasting venue.

“The key for this lovely property is that it’s located in the Tukituki Special Character Zone which includes Te Mata Peak and the surrounding vineyards, cafes and restaurants. It’s so well positioned right next to the Tukituki River and just 5km from Havelock North,” he says.

“There’s lots of foot traffic on the walkway that runs along the boundary above the river and the property’s location on the eastern side of Havelock North and Te Mata Peak is a popular spot for locals and visitors keen to enjoy a meal or sample some of the region’s popular wines.”

Akarangi comes with nearly 2.7ha of land already planted in several grape varieties and close to 1.8ha in three apple varieties. The grapes and apples are set up with microjet sprinkler irrigation supplied with water from a bore and pump system on the property.

Improvements include a tidy three-bedroom villa style home, full of character and sited alongside an historic church which has been used for wine tastings in the past. The church features beautiful native timber and could be repurposed to create a wedding or hospitality venue.

The winery shed has ample height for wine vats and comes with an attached sleepout space, fully lined with its own bathroom facilities. There are also several sheds for storing equipment and farm implements.

“We’re looking for new owners with the energy and vision to take advantage of the property’s location right next to the walkway, and nearby Te Mata Peak and Havelock North,” he says.

The Hawke’s Bay region is experiencing a huge resurgence in activity following the devastating impacts of Cycle Gabrielle in early 2023.

“There’s real positivity about what Hawke’s Bay has to offer, with its great climate, wineries, events, beaches and activities to enjoy.”

“Visitor numbers are building so this property is a great opportunity for new owners to capitalise on the region’s rising popularity,” he says.

Tenders are invited by 4pm on 25 June with Bayleys, Havelock North.
